2024 40 Under 40 Spotlight: Elizabeth Wente, 2020

Posted online

Then: Partner, Spencer Fane LLP
Now: Deputy general counsel, SRC Holdings Corp.

Making the leap earlier this year to SRC Holdings Corp. wasn’t an extremely surprising move for attorney Elizabeth Wente. As outside counsel with Spencer Fane LLP, Wente worked with SRC and had an intimate knowledge of its operations.

“I knew about SRC’s business model and care for their people. When SRC offered me the opportunity to join their team as an in-house attorney,” she says, “I saw an opportunity to be able to consistently focus my attention on one organization and, more importantly, on the future for its employee-owners.”

Wente, 42, says she learned servant leadership and listening skills during her 10 years at Spencer Fane, and those will transfer to SRC.

“Being employee-owned emphasizes the importance of listening to the employee-owners about what is important to them, where they see opportunities for growth,” she says, “then creating opportunities incorporating those ideas.”

Best advice to young professionals? Be flexible and do not be afraid to challenge yourself. The best opportunities usually present themselves when you aren’t looking.
