The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, inspired by former Boston College baseball player Pete Frates, has taken off, leading to more than $15 million in donations to the ALS Association, according to Boston.com.
The viral campaign - which has included celebrities dumping buckets of ice water on themselves to bring awareness to the disease - has resulted in the association receiving $15.6 million in donations, compared to $1.8 million during the same stretch from late July to mid-August of 2013.
The money has come in from existing donors, as well as more than 307,000 new donors.
