Community involvement is a door Brittany Waugh not only opens for herself, but encourages others to open as well.
As a a private client risk adviser at Ollis & Co.,Waugh views community involvement as a way to try out roles of leadership in a safe environment and to connect with others. Because of this perspective, Waugh encourages her friends to get involved in community organizations, such as the Junior League of Springfield.
“A professional friend of mine encouraged me to join and it has been a great experience that I wanted to share with my friends,” Waugh says.
Andrea McKinney, vice president at Central Trust and Investment Co. and fellow Junior League member, says Waugh brings something to the community table that others don’t.
“Her knowledge, drive to succeed and commitment set her apart from others in her field,” McKinney says. “Not only has Brittany made a difference in the lives of others, she is a great asset to the Springfield community.”
Waugh has her foot in the door in other community organizations, as well.
Currently, she serves as board president of Ozarks Counseling Center, overseeing four fundraising events and always trying to challenge members to take fundraisers to the next level.
During her first experience with the group, she organized the Not So Newlywed Game. Waugh says she was excited but overwhelmed by the task ahead of her.
“I had no experience in coordinating a large fundraising event,” she says. Despite being new, Waugh set aggressive goals, took risks and tried new things.
As a result, sponsorship and attendance for the event increased and the overall event doubled in terms of dollars raised. That money underwrote an additional 2,467 hours of counseling services, hours the community can now benefit from.
As a private client risk adviser at Ollis & Co., Waugh advises more than 400 high net worth clients on their personal risk management strategy. She also earned the professional designation of Life Underwriting Training Council Fellow from the American College.
Waugh is part of Leadership Springfield Class 29, something she got involved in as a way to get an inside look at the Queen City.
“I can say I am already getting so much more,” she says. “This program is helping me take a thoughtful look at what needs to exist in our community and helps me find our passion and focus while making connections with other future leaders of Springfield.”[[In-content Ad]]
