While leading the BancorpSouth branch with the least amount of turnover in Springfield, Joshua Sapp’s management style speaks volumes.
As first vice president of BancorpSouth in Springfield, Sapp is responsible for the management of the Kansas Expressway branch just south of James River Freeway.
“Since taking over approximately two years ago, I purposefully fostered an environment of camaraderie and friendship, but also of a successful, thriving business,” Sapp says. “I enjoy being one of the first to arrive in the morning and the last to leave.
“I believe my work ethic and the success that comes from hard work is contagious in our organization and impacts our bank’s level of performance overall.”
Sapp says he uses his rank to inspire others at the bank, and has mentored employees on more than one occasion.
During the past year and a half, he has strived for a more relaxed environment among personnel at the branch to produce a better atmosphere for the sake of a personal banker who frequently struggles with anxiety and can become overwhelmed with her job.
“Recognizing this did not foster a good working environment for her or others around her, I felt it was my responsibility to try and decrease her anxiety and undue stress,” Sapp says. “I feel my open-door policy for the staff, my positive outlook, my ambition and drive to do my best work all of the time, and my laid back attitude have helped inspire those around me.”
He says the employee is now thriving in the more relaxed business environment. Sapp’s influence also has been felt on at least one retail banking manager, as well as a teller at his branch he believes could some day move on to head a nonprofit working with children.
Sapp currently serves as president of the Ozarks Regional Community Development Corp., an organization formed by area banks that specializes in providing financing for businesses that cannot obtain traditional funding. It’s a source of pride for Sapp, who says the organization is made up largely of banking veterans, with 20 to 40 years of experience.
“There are several young bankers in town,” Sapp says. “However, I believe there are very few at my age who have obtained the same level of success and responsibility.”
He is active in Rotary Club of Springfield Southeast, and before that Rotaract, where he served on the Don’t Meth With Us committee during his final year of membership.
Sapp is a member of The Network, a networking group sponsored by the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce, and serves on the associate board of the Springfield Little Theatre, that plans the organization’s largest annual fundraiser.[[In-content Ad]]
