2013 40 Under 40 Honoree: Michael Katrosh

Posted online
In his more that six years at Queen City Roofing and Contracting Co., Michael Katrosh has built an accomplished work record.

Following a three-year career as a basketball coach and educator at Union University and Portland High School in Tennessee, Katrosh interviewed for and was selected to join the roofing business under Larry Stock, the company’s president.

Stock, who has known Katrosh since AAU-basketball days when he was 11 years old, says he’s been very impressed with his work.

“To say he’s done extremely well is an understatement,” Stock says of Katrosh, who has worked his way up to executive vice president and general manager of Queen City Roofing.

Most recently, Katrosh helped the 82-year-old company achieve a new record in annual sales for fiscal 2012.

“Queen City Roofing has had a steady increase in sales in each of the last six years while maintaining profit margins under my management, including a 28 percent increase in sales from the 2011 to 2012 fiscal year,” Katrosh says.

One notable project under Katrosh’s belt is the CoxHealth Emergency Department in south Springfield. He says his contribution included budgeting, bidding, negotiating the contract, pre-construction planning and project management.

Highlights of his time at Queen City also include implementing a voluntary employee-benefit association to manage the benefits of roughly 40 employees.

“During my tenure, there was a major shift in employment conditions making it necessary to change the way our employees’ benefits were handled,” Katrosh says.

“We chose an association that holds the funds to provide benefits for our employees. With this association, we have been able to provide benefits that exceed industry standards.”

Outside of work, Katrosh is involved with several charitable efforts.

He has volunteered as a meal provider for the Ronald McDonald House and actively participated in both the Relay For Life and March of Dimes campaigns.

Katrosh is also a member of the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce’s under-40 leadership group, The Network, and through Queen City Roofing, has supported the Tanger 5K Breast Cancer Run as corporate sponsor.

The former science teacher is also a Missouri State University and Union University donor. In addition, Katrosh holds memberships with the Springfield Contractors Association, the Midwest Roofing Contractors Association and the National Roofing Contractors Association.

Katrosh has found the right balance between being an effective professional and leading a successful personal life, Stock says.

“Michael is a very good manager, leader of people, family man and involved in several community and professional associations,” Stock says. “His ongoing commitment to both personal and professional development is one of his major strengths.”
