2013 40 Under 40 Honoree: Mandy Jones

Posted online
Family Pharmacy owner and Missouri State Rep. Lynn Morris dosen’t easily dish out vice president titles – even for his daughters, but Mandy Jones has made the most out of the opportunities given to her.

Working in every aspect of the family business, Jones says being named Family Pharmacy Inc. vice president is her proudest accomplishment to date.

“About six years ago I was named vice president – a title which doesn’t come easy from my dad,” Jones says. “As proud as I am of being trusted to take on this challenge, I am equally proud of the fact that I am able to work with my family every day; it’s all of us that make it work.”

The Morris family business employs 250 and operates close to 20 retail stores throughout the southwest Missouri area.

“My dad started our business in 1977 and has grown it to what it is today,” she says. “These are big shoes to fill. My goal is to fill them.”

Jones has worked for Family Pharmacy for the majority of the last 20 years – since she started walking, she jokes – and has been in a leadership role since 2002 as director of marketing and store development.

“I feel that I am one of the luckiest people in the world, because I work with my family every day,” Jones says. “I also believe that we strike a very good balance between work and family.”

Outside of working in the family business, Jones has established herself as a community leader through groups such as Springfield’s Best, where she’s served as president, the Delmina Woods Community Council, Sparta Community Development Committee and Christian County DARE. She also is a member of the Ozark Rotary club.

“I feel that I bring a more modern approach that will influence a positive and progressive change in the community,” Jones says.

“These organizations also give me the opportunity to bond and build relationships with others working toward the same cause.”

More recently, Jones was elected the youngest member of the board for the Ozark Chamber of Commerce, and she says she’s proud to have been voted to the position by 370 local business owners.

“Mandy is a savvy leader who thrives on challenges while remaining integrity driven,” says Theresa Gilmore, the executive director of Springfield’s Best. “Her leadership and significant contributions rendered to Springfield’s Best, an organization dedicated to promoting local businesses, are immeasurable.”

Outside of her organizations, Jones has taken action for individual events, such as securing more than $20,000 in medical supplies to be donated to Haiti and transported by private plane at the behest of Family Pharmacy, as well as spearheading a drive to give disaster relief supplies to those affected by the 2011 Joplin tornado.
