Nicole Norton says her definition of leadership is the ability to see how things could be, not necessarily as they are.
The University of Missouri graduate has held several marketing and sales positions since 2000 with Dillard’s/Prescriptives Treatment and The Springfield News-Leader before being hired as BancorpSouth’s Missouri regional sales and marketing coordinator in August 2009.
Prior to her banking career, she spent seven years in the media industry where she was selected as one of 10 Future Leaders by the Newspaper Association of America.
Now as vice president of BancorpSouth in Springfield, she oversees sales and service functions for six BancorpSouth locations in Springfield and one in St. Louis.
“My position encompasses a variety of projects and requires a large amount of teamwork with internal and external stakeholders,” Norton says.
She has facilitated Leading with Our Strengths, a managerial retreat for leadership in banking, and enhanced BancorpSouth’s new employee training program. During her time at BancorpSouth, she has educated more than 100 frontline staff members on the sales process, implemented reward programs and coordinated advertising, public relations and community involvement efforts.
Norton aims to foster the success of other professionals by creating two roadmaps for success. “The first component is their annual strategic plan, which outlines objectives they want to accomplish for the year, in addition to their regular job duties,” Norton says. “Secondly, I help them create a leadership development program, meant to assess and address training needs for their career.”
Norton transfers her leadership skills into her volunteer work for the Junior League of Springfield, an organization for which she has held various positions during the last nine years.
Norton also has volunteered with Girls on the Run, Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Ozarks and the Missouri Alumni Association’s Greater Ozarks Chapter. Norton is president-elect of the Golden Key Scholarship Fund, which helps young women attend the University of Missouri. Since 1985, 230 scholarships exceeding $330,000 have been awarded.
In 2011, Norton served as volunteer coordinator for Oscar Night, an annual event that raised more than $100,000 for Isabel’s House. Norton was in charge of more than 75 volunteers involved with the fundraiser.
