Michael Miller readily cites his proudest professional achievement so far: his election to managing member of Lowther Johnson Attorneys at Law LLC.
"It was a very proud moment to know that the other 11 members of the firm trusted that electing me to that position was in the best interest of the firm. It was also humbling realizing that they knew I would make the necessary sacrifices to manage the day-to-day operations of the firm and plan for its continued success," Miller says. "To not only be elected as my firmís managing member but also to be elected at the age of 33, when many attorneys that age are not even partner or member of their respective firms, was a significant professional accomplishment."
In addition to a busy legal practice, Miller is responsible for developing and implementing performance standards for the firm's 17 attorneys and more than 50 staff members. He helps train young associates, heads hiring efforts and develops the firmís strategic planning.
Miller serves on the commercial law and property law committees for the Missouri Bar and the bench and bar committee for the Springfield Metropolitan Bar Association. He previously served as co-chairman for SMBA's Young Lawyers Section and helped lead a committee of attorneys in a 12-month jury trial series.
"I also collaborated in establishing a mentorship program for new attorneys," Miller says. ìThat program has grown to assist all new attorneys in SMBA in becoming accustomed with the practice of law in Greene County and developing the necessary skills to become productive members of the bar."
Last year, Miller was one of 12 attorneys in the state chosen for the Missouri Barís Leadership Academy.
"The academy seeks diversity in gender, race, area of practice and region of practice in order to broaden and strengthen the leadership of the Missouri Bar," he says. "As part of this academy, I am working on a project that ... will provide resources to lower-income Missouri residents assisting them in gaining access to the courts and other state departments."
Also in 2014, Miller was selected for one of Springfield Business Journal’s inaugural Trusted Advisers awards, and he was a winner in the law firm leader category of Missouri Lawyers Weekly’s Up & Coming Award.
“The awards recognize lawyers who are 40 or younger or within the first 10 years of practice,” Miller says. “Editors selected the winners based on their demonstration of excellence and their potential to make a difference in the legal profession and their communities.”
He is a member of the Children’s Miracle Network’s campaign committee and serves on the board of The Victim Center. Miller also mentors young attorneys at his firm as well as law students who serve as summer clerks.[[In-content Ad]]
