In his four years at UMB Bank, Justin Butler has moved his way up to vice president and commercial banking officer.
The climb is thanks in part to recognitions such as being named UMB Greater Missouri Commercial Metro Top Producer last year, based on the number of new relationships brought in to the bank.
“I feel my discipline and drive for success has allowed me to raise the bar year after year,” he says.
Part of Butler’s leadership at UMB involves developing a health care initiative focused on brand exposure and increased loan growth with independent health care practices in the area.
“My efforts have yielded relationships with more than 30 dental practices throughout our region within three short years,” he says.
Butler says his goals stem from the leadership and guidance demonstrated by his grandfather, a business owner and his mentor early on in life.
“He was very positive, upbeat and enthusiastic,” Butler says. “He enjoyed meeting new people and helping people put thoughts into words.”
Meeting new people and being a part of the community is important to Butler. In fact, it’s one of the reasons he decided to join UMB – its philosophy on giving back to the communities that support the bank.
Since 2007, Butler has served on the board of the Community Alternative Sentencing Program, which provides opportunities for offenders to do service work at community nonprofit agencies as an alternative to jail.
“It was a wonderful opportunity to serve as chairman of the board for this unique organization that is working to make Springfield a better and safer place to live,” Butler says of his stint last year.
But his service doesn’t end there. He also is involved with the Drury University Alumni Council, Rotaract, Walk to Defeat ALS and Springfield Ballet, for which he serves as treasurer.
His willingness to help extends to assisting co-workers see community service from a different perspective.
“There’s a wonderful momentum taking place at UMB,” Butler says. “Colleagues are discovering their passions and aligning those with community involvement and activities.”
Butler says that part of his drive and enthusiasm applies to his relationships with UMB associates and motivating them.
“My colleagues can always count on me to be available to help, take initiative and be proactive,” he says, noting he recently assisted a teammate looking to increase his civic involvement and was able to provide him coaching and direction. “While this was not in my job description, I understand that each of us possess specific skill sets and we all have strengths and weaknesses.
“I enjoy helping fellow team members identify these areas and excel.”
Continuing to excel is in Butler’s nature. He believes he can always do something better.
“I’m not afraid to take risks, and I want to motivate others to feel the same way,” he says. “I know that my success is directly impacted by the success of those around me.”[[In-content Ad]]
