Lawsuit alleges Purina's Beneful can harm, kill dogs

A class action lawsuit against Nestle Purina PetCare Co. alleges its Beneful brand dog food contains toxins that are harmful to dogs and can cause their death.

The suit, filed Feb. 5 in California, alleges the dog food brand has caused thousands of illnesses and deaths, according to the St. Louis Business Journal.

"We believe the lawsuit is without merit, and we intend to vigorously defend ourselves against it," Nestle Purina PetCare spokesman Keith Schopp told the journal.
