MO gas prices average lowest in the nation

At about $3.12 per gallon, Missouri's average retail gasoline prices were the lowest in the nation this morning, according to GasBuddy.com's list of lowest gas price averages by state.

Missouri prices dropped 4.8 cents per gallon during the week of Sept. 26-Oct. 2 to $3.15 per gallon on Sunday. Nationally, prices fell 5.9 cents but averaged $3.46 per gallon, according to a GasBuddy.com news release.

Prices Oct. 2 were 36 cents per gallon lower than a month ago but 62.3 cents per gallon higher than a year ago in Missouri. U.S. prices fell 20.3 cents per gallon during the past month and are 73.3 cents per gallon higher than a year ago.

"Motorists are certainly delighted that average gasoline prices are at their lowest since early March, but compared to prices a year ago, motorists are still feeling a pinch at the pump," said Patrick DeHaan, GasBuddy.com senior petroleum analyst, in the release.

"The good news is that during the upcoming weeks, there will continue to be factors that could put more downward pressure on oil and gasoline prices," he added. "I continue to expect that average gasoline prices will bounce between $3.25 to $3.50 for much of the rest of 2011."

This morning, the cheapest gas in the state was selling for $2.77 per gallon at a filling station in Perryville. The most expensive gas, $3.49 per gallon, was available at two stations in Branson and Jackson, near Cape Girardeau.

Springfieldians could expect to pay $3.09 per gallon at Sam's Club, 3660 E. Sunshine St., the lowest price available in the city, according to MissouriGasPrices.com.

According to the CME Group, light sweet crude oil futures for November were trading at $76.30 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange as of 9:50 a.m.
