Ozarks New Energy 2010 conference agenda announced

Organizers of the third Ozarks New Energy, or ONE, conference announced the agenda for their event, scheduled for Oct. 7–8 on the Missouri State University campus.

The conference, which this year has the theme "Connecting With New Energy," will offer 30 sessions on topics including power generation, transportation, energy efficiency, biofuel, green building and food security, according to a ONE news release.  

Speakers for the event include:

• David Knight of Net Zero Energy Certified in Monterrey, Calif., who has built more than 100 homes and buildings that produce more energy than they consume;

• Agricultural economist John Ikerd, talking about sustainable food production;

• Missouri Department of Natural Resources Director Mark Templeton, talking about Missouri's energy plan; and

• Biofuels industry pioneer Bill Ayres on advances in carbon-free fuels.

The conference also will have workshops on designing and constructing large buildings to meet Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification, as well as home energy audits, the release said.

Topics for breakout sessions will include biochar, future fuels for cars and trucks, going solar, the future of natural gas, energy efficiency, high-speed rail and streetcars, green landscaping, smart grids, steam, heat pumps, biotechnology in renewables, nuclear, small hydro and carbon trading for farmers.
