IBM facility bringing 800 jobs to Columbia

Gov. Jay Nixon was in Columbia Monday to announce a new services delivery center being planned there by New York-based IBM.

The center, which will provide information technology services to U.S. and global IBM clients, would create an estimated 800 technical and professional jobs in mid-Missouri, according to a news release from the governor's office.

IBM received millions of dollars in state incentives, including $8.6 million from the Missouri Business Use Incentives for Large-scale Development program and $14.7 million in Quality Jobs program incentives. According to the release, both programs provide incentives to businesses that create a specific number of jobs and meet other qualifications.

State incentives also include $4.2 million in New Jobs Training funds, $300,000 in Customized Training funding and $412,500 in Employee Recruitment and Referral Savings funding.

“It is exciting that one of the world’s most respected and recognizable brands in the IT industry has chosen mid-Missouri as the location for its new services delivery center,” Nixon said in the news release. “IBM’s decision to invest in Missouri is a strong indication of the momentum of our economic recovery."

The IBM facility, to be housed in an existing building at 2810 LeMone Industrial Blvd. in Columbia, will house a services delivery center, server systems operations, security services, and monitoring of computer hardware and software systems.
