2009 Most Influential Women Honoree: Dr. Kristy McCall

Posted online
Whether interacting with patients, co-workers or family, Dr. Kristy McCall strives to positively influence others and demonstrate that there are no limits to success.

A partner at Ferrell-Duncan Obstetrics and Gynecology, McCall is a Springfield native and graduate of Drury University.

She graduated from University of Missouri School of Medicine in Columbia and then went on to University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine.

After completing her obstetrics and gynecology residency in 1999, McCall and her husband returned to Springfield, and she worked to build her practice.

Active outside of seeing patients, McCall served for three years as the peer review doctor for obstetrics and gynecology, the infection control committee and serves on the credentialing committee for CoxHealth.

"Over the past 10 years, I have led the way in developing an outstanding team of nurse practitioners, an office nurse and a private scrub assistant ... (a position that) had not previously been used by an obstetrician or gynecologist at Cox Hospital," McCall says. "I felt that she would add a dimension to my practice for patient care."

McCall also added a dedicated surgery scheduler and appointment scheduler to aid accuracy and efficiency, which prompted partners to follow suit.

Aside from her pride for her two young daughters, McCall considers her role as founding doctor in the Center for Robotics and Minimally Invasive Surgery her proudest professional accomplishment.

"I am the first female surgeon in Springfield to perform a hysterectomy and sacrocolpopexy using the DaVinci robotic system," McCall says. "We created and developed a dedicated Web site, advertisements and a patient educational DVD. ... It gives me great pride to offer women in the southwest Missouri and Arkansas area an option to traditional hysterectomy and open procedures."

She is on the planning committee for the first robotics symposium for doctors and nurse practitioners. The event, which is designed to become annual, is slated for October.

She also mentors area students.

"I routinely have students from area high schools and colleges job shadow for a day or two, because I feel that I have an honored career that needs the brightest and most dedicated young people to enter into (it)," she says.

McCall relates to her many patients who balance family and work, and she is glad she can offer women the opportunity to get back to their lives faster following surgery.

McCall has served on the advisory board for New Hope Gyn Cancer Support Group (now called Gyn Cancers Alliance), is an active supporter of the Pregnancy Care Center and has participated in medical missions in India and Nicaragua through Second Baptist Church.

"To show compassion and share my talents and gifts with those less fortunate, whether at home or abroad, is hopefully my greatest influence," she says.[[In-content Ad]]
