Positronic Industries closing Cabool plant

Springfield-based Positronic Industries announced today that it is closing its Cabool plant effective Oct. 30. The manufacturing plant employs 36, who will be laid off when it closes.

The company, which makes electrical connectors and has locations in Missouri as well as Puerto Rico, France, Singapore and India, is consolidating Cabool's connector assembly operations with the work done in its three other southwest Missouri plants.

Company President John Gentry, who traveled to Cabool today to tell the plant's employees in person about the decision, said industry conditions forced the company to make a tough financial decision.

"Conditions for a year now have been declining, and our industry has been affected like all industries," Gentry said. "Business conditions have dropped, and the type of products they manufacture in Cabool were hit as hard as any."

Gentry said the company is working with the 36 employees in the job-hunting process; Positronic already has contacted the Missouri Division of Workforce Development's West Plains office, which will be offering assistance with training, résumé building and job searches.

Positronic employs 464 people in its Missouri locations, and the Cabool operation has been open since 2000.
