Community Foundation of the Ozarks is partnering with The Commerce Trust Co. to dole out $200,000 in grants tomorrow to 17 southern Missouri organizations.
Recipients were selected from over $1.4 million in requested funding to support agencies focused on poverty, seniors, health, community development and the arts, according to a news release.
In alphabetical order, the organizations are:
- Barceda Families, $19,300 toward a child-abuse prevention program for teen parents in six counties;
- Broseley Senior Citizens Inc., $8,500 to purchase healthy meals for seniors living in and around Butler County;
- Care to Learn, $20,000 to buy health, hunger and hygiene items for children in its Cape Girardeau, Fordland, Greenfield and Sparta chapters;
- City of Billings, $5,000 to purchase new equipment and perform landscaping and plant work for a shared community space;
- City of Reeds Spring, $20,000 to improve its historic building and create a shared community space;
- Community Health Center of Joplin, $11,700 to help at least 500 people with assessments, personal planning and health resources;
- Dade County Health Department/Southwest Area Coalition, $15,000 for laboratory and prescription drug services for county residents;
- Diaper Bank of the Ozarks, $10,000 to create disposable and cloth diaper banks in rural communities;
- El Dorado Springs Senior Center, $10,000 to purchase supplies and improve air conditioning;
- Gasconade R-1 Schools, $10,000 toward a marketing campaign designed to attract young people to Hermann;
- Hickory County Cares, $8,500 for hygiene products for a food pantry;
- Jesus Was Homeless, $10,000 to allow homeless and low-income residents in the Branson area to meet with doctors for medical, vision and dental care;
- Ripley County Caring Community Partnership, $7,000 for a mentoring program for at-risk students between ages 8 and 13 in Doniphan;
- Senior Citizens of Ozark County, $15,000 to build a new roof for its senior center;
- Southwest Center for Independent Living, $10,000 to provide classes, events and advocacy supports for youths with disabilities in Stone and Taney counties;
- Steelville Arts Council, $10,000 to promote local artists and tourism; and
- The Independent Living Council, $10,000 to develop on-the-job training programs for Joplin-area youths with disabilities.
The grants are made through the 2015 Louis L. and Julia Dorothy Coover Regional Grantmaking Program. The presentation is scheduled 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Commerce Trust Co., 1345 E. Battlefield Road, according to the release.[[In-content Ad]]
