Last edited 2 p.m., Aug. 25, 2014Beloit, Wis.-based Regal Beloit Corp. (NYSE: RBC) has listed its Springfield plant on the market after announcing last year it would cease operations and lay off workers at the facility.
The 325,355-square-foot building, 2401 E. Sunshine St., is available at the end of first-quarter 2015, according to the listing with R.B. Murray Co. Its asking price is $11 million. Listing agent Dave Murray said the plant will be operational through the end of the year.
In July 2013, Regal Beloit announced it would lay off some 330 workers during an 18-month transition as the company transferred the Springfield components to other Regal facilities in the U.S. and Mexico, according to
Springfield Business Journal archives.
In 2004, Regal Beloit purchased the facility from General Electric Co. and proceeded to use the facility for the manufacturing of motors to incorporate into HVAC systems.
At the time of the closure announcement, Regal Beloit corporate spokesman John Perino said the move was brought on by soft sales regionally for the company that sells products to clients throughout North America.
