Evangel University hired a professor and dean at New Mexico State University to take over for its retiring provost and vice president for academic affairs.
Tilahun Adera, dean of NMSU's health and social services colleges and a professor of public health services, takes the position in Springfield on July 21. He succeeds Glenn Bernet, who will retire July 2 after 51 years with Evangel. He served as the school's chief academic officer since 1985, according to a news release.
"(Adera) brings outstanding academic and administrative credentials, a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching, scholarship and service in the community and church with a rich global perspective," Evangel President and CEO Carol Taylor said in the release. "This combination of attributes makes him ideally suited to provide visionary leadership for our continued academic development and as a key member of the executive leadership team for Evangel.”
When Taylor chose her leadership team in
mid-2013, Bernet agreed to postpone his retirement until a national search could be conducted for his successor.
At NMSU, Adera has served as a dean since 2009. Before that, he worked at Medical College of Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Va., rising from assistant professor to senior associate dean for public health for the college's school of medicine, according to the release.[[In-content Ad]]
