Reckitt Benckiser signs on at Solo Cup

Posted online
Beginning June 1, Reckitt Benckiser plans to occupy space in the former Solo Cup plant.

The international manufacturer, which also operates a facility in Springfield at the Partnership Industrial Center, signed a lease March 1 with building owner Warren Davis Properties. Owner Warren Davis said Reckitt Benckiser agreed to occupy two suites totaling 183,000 square feet, leaving some 330,000 square feet of space left to lease in the 1.35 million-square-foot Solo Cup complex. Davis said Reckitt Benckiser required more room for their Springfield operations.

Plastic packaging systems manufacturer Buckhorn Inc. leased 120,000 square feet of industrial space at the plant late last year, consolidating two 50,000-square-foot warehouses in north Springfield in the process. Davis Properties also has leased 230,000 square feet to Springfield-based NewStream Enterprises, a division of SRC Holdings Corp., since May 2012.

As renovation work continues - with a completion estimated for September - crews can be seen working in front of the building, where Davis said water retention systems are being constructed, as well as additional loading bays. Q & Co. LLC is serving as general contractor, with design work by Buxton Kubik Dodd Creative.

Davis said plans also are in the works to build two 125,000-square-foot buildings to lease out behind the former Solo Cup plant.[[In-content Ad]]
