Former Tony's Italian Cafe spot on market after closure

Posted online

A South Campbell Avenue property home to multiple restaurants in past years is back on the market.

The 2811 S. Campbell Ave. spot most recently housed Tony's Italian Cafe & Bar. The eatery closed July 3 after less than five months in business, according to owner Tony Garcia, who also owns Avanzare Italian Dining on South Glenstone Avenue. Garcia said a self-made error on the paperwork for the business licensing of the restaurant - and a larger focus on Avanzare - led to the closure.

"For me, it was better to move on," Garcia said, noting Tony's was never legally in his name due to the error. The restaurant was established via South Campbell Cafe LLC, which according to the Missouri secretary of state's office, is owned by Adem Rushiti. Garcia said the closure amounts to a failed partnership, rather than a lack of sales at the restaurant.

The 3,000-square-foot property - which also has housed restaurants including Nipa and Thai House - is listed for sale at $725,000 or for lease at $5,000 per month, according to listing agent Mike Fusek of Sperry Van Ness/Rankin Co. LLC. The property is owned by Patrick Netthongkome Jr., according to the Greene County assessor's website.
