CoxHealth breaks ground on patient tower

CoxHealth broke ground this morning on its new patient tower at its south Springfield flagship hospital. During the ceremony, the health system also announced two significant donations.

Scheduled for completion in 18 to 24 months, the 310,000-square-foot addition to Cox South would house a women's and children's hospital and a neuroscience center, as well as room for future expansion, according to a news release.

The $130 million expansion is funded in part by a $200 million April 3 bond issuance, when the hospital sold out of bonds within the first hour of sales. Two naming-level donations for undisclosed amounts announced at the groundbreaking this morning came from:

• the Jared family - Linda and Jerry Jared; Curtis and Jade Jared; Roger, Andrew and Cindy Jared; and Brian and Michelle Jared - to support the facility to be named the Jared Neuroscience Center; and
• Arthur and Ruth Ann White, supporting the Dee Ann White Women's and Children's Hospital.

“As Springfield’s only locally owned nonprofit health system, CoxHealth depends on the generosity of our friends and  neighbors,” CoxHealth Foundation President Lisa Alexander said in the release. “We’re thankful to those who have committed to this project, and we look forward to working with community members at all levels of donation who want to help CoxHealth meet the needs of those around them.”

CoxHealth announced it would build the nine-store patient tower early last month.[[In-content Ad]]
