Mindi Madron opened College Street Barkade on April 19 at 504 W. Commercial St. The two-story building, leased from architect Bo Hagerman for an undisclosed amount, houses a full bar on the ground floor and an arcade upstairs with about a dozen games such as Pac-Man, Donkey Kong and Asteroids. A reserved seating area also offers Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii U console play. Madron, a mother of three whose husband works in retail, said Barkade is a side venture for her after spending two years working in Wal-Mart Stores Inc. corporate offices and another 10 years for a cash registers vendor. Madron said she got the idea from a Las Vegas club called Insert Coins. Barkade employs about seven part-time bartenders, and there is no cover and no charges for games, she said.
