Mission Statement:

To provide a hand up to end poverty locally and globally.

Opportunities:

Sustainability:  Our program is in a leper colony located in Korah, Ethiopia. Korah has over 10,000 leper and HIV positive women at risk of losing their children. We discover the talent of the individual, help them master their trade and teach financial literacy so they become sustainable. When one woman learns a trade she in turn affects her family and 4 other families. Our goal is to keep families together. A sponsorship for a family is $1000.

Education:  The local social responsibility/empowerment curriculum is implemented in Pipkin Middle School.  Through the curriculum students learn about the 5 most critical needs in our global communities: water, food, shelter, health and education. Students learn how those 5 needs affect their local community and how to provide a hand up in these areas.  Students are able to communicate with school children in our global communities.  Best of all, as local students problem solve for the global communities they learn what they think they will become.

Empowerment:  In El Salvador we have reached over 12,000 students in public schools.  Our youth empowerment team asks the youth,“What’s your story?”  Through school assemblies and small group meetings we are able to connect with students with a message of staying in school, earning an education and teaching family values.

Leadership:  Locally we’re determining people’s capacity for good by discovering their top 5 leadership strengths. Our targets are homeless and at-risk youth.

Medical Clinics:  We’ve cared for over 6,000 patients in our medical clinics in El Salvador and Ethiopia.  We incorporate learning in all our clinics by educating each patient on basic health, hygiene and how to live a healthier lifestyle. Sponsor a week’s worth of clinics with medicine/vitamins/educational materials: $4,000

12-month Goals:

These next 12 months will be a time of fundraising.  For the past few years we have focused on mastering our efforts and caring for the people.  Our board of directors acknowledged we have functioned on a “dental floss” budget.  Our IPL directors and staff have volunteered their time thus far, but now are responsible to raise their own support.  We have incredible talent that is ready for the next level and as with all organizations, it comes down to funding.

Locally we intend to implement our social responsibility curriculum in other schools and partner with other youth agencies with our Hand Up to Leadership program.  Our goal is to send 1,000 Ethiopian lepers or HIV positive women on a sustainability journey.  In El Salvador, we are aiming to launch our youth empowerment program full time in public schools. Our reach is 10,000 students.

Annual Events:

November 1st, benefit concert at the Gillioz Theater.
