SRO Lyric Theatre, aka Springfield Regional Opera, has named a 15-year entertainment veteran as its new managing director.
Tim Caldwell joined the nonprofit's staff July 30, succeeding Director Derek Munson, who stepped down after two years to work toward a master's degree in theater.
As managing director, Caldwell said he is responsible for working with Amy Muchnick, SRO artistic director, to select shows; overseeing day-to-day operations; fundraising; managing the budget; and working with marketing and productions.
"There are so few positions like this to be able to work in the arts in Springfield and to be able to utilize a variety of skills," Caldwell said. "To promote the arts in Springfield is very dear to me and very close to me. To get paid to do something I'd volunteer for is amazing."
Caldwell, who is completing his master's in teaching at Missouri State University, has worked in various positions with myriad entertainment organizations, including:
- Springfield Contemporary Theatre, as a productions director, director of development and actor;
- Springfield Little Theatre, as an actor and set designer;
- Tent Theatre, as an assistant company manager, assistant production manager, assistant director and actor; and
- MSU Theatre and Dance Department, as an adjunct faculty member, graduate assistant of marketing and promotions, graphic designer, set designer, assistant director and actor.
He also is a
former owner of Nonna's Italian American Café, which is now owned by Shawn Kraft.
Caldwell comes on board to launch SRO's 2012-13 season, which begins with "Opera Goes to Hollywood" Sept. 28 and Sept. 30 at the Gillioz Theatre.[[In-content Ad]]
