Nepal quake damage could top $5B

The death toll from Saturday's 7.8 magnitude earthquake in Nepal is expected to rise beyond the current 3,726 tally, and initial damage reports indicate widespread devastation.

Early estimates indicate it will cost at least $5 billion to reconstruct areas hit by the quake, according to CNNMoney.

"Massive international disaster relief and rescue efforts will be needed urgently, as well as large-scale international financial and technical assistance for long-term reconstruction of the economy," said Rajiv Biswas, Asia-Pacific chief economist for IHS, in a research note.
