2012 Choice Employers, Community Involvement Champion: Dawn Mixon

Posted online
Jack Henry & Associates Administrative Assistant Dawn Mixon serves in the Imaging Solutions Administration Department, where she does what she loves: Serve others.

Mixon is involved with contract administration, reporting and other tasks, but she has her helpful hand in planning for most activities at the Monett-based company.

Apart from her regular duties, Mixon is involved with the company’s local Community Stewardship Initiative team, Jack Henry & Associates Charitable Actions, Rewarding Experiences Springfield – jhaCAREs – a program she has been a part of since her tenure began.

Mixon said during the past year, the jhaCAREs team has been busy with events and increasing volunteer involvement. Mixon actively recruits new members for the team.

“The more team members we have, the more we can accomplish for our community,” Mixon said. She is responsible for organizing events and hurdles that comes along, from getting a PA system to picking up donation items.

Most notably in the last year, Dixon was involved with Taco Tuesday and Crosslines, a Council of Churches of the Ozarks initiative.

Taco Tuesday is an ongoing event that donates to various charities. The Traveling Taco sets up at Jack Henry’s headquarters and donates $1 from every item sold. On May 1, Taco Tuesday raised $190 for the Wounded Warrior Project.

“This fosters community involvement because associates know that they have a voice in what their donations go toward,” Mixon said. Funds from Taco Tuesdays also have benefitted the American Diabetes Association and United Way of the Ozarks.

In collaboration with Crosslines, jhaCAREs forged the first Saturday Food Distribution.

On opening day of the month-long event, 54 families were served. The original goal was to raise $500 along with food, toiletry and school supply donations. Mixon coordinated volunteer efforts and volunteered for the event, with her daughter, Allee, and son, Matthew. Crosslines and jhaCAREs raised $1,266, surpassing its goal and collecting 537 pounds of food, toiletries and school supplies.

A more recent event, the Sept. 15 Springfield Run for Jack 5K raised $2,430 for United Way of the Ozarks.

Between the 5K, events such as flip-flop day and a parking space raffle, $5,488 was raised for the organization.

“I feel I am called to be a servant to others every chance I get,” Mixon said.

“I am so very blessed that Jack Henry allows me to do this through the jhaCAREs team, because as a busy mom, I can’t always fit volunteer time in on the weekends.”
