Posted online
In her position at BKD LLP, Marci Bowling has many opportunities to impact the community through connecting resources with those in need.

Bowling joined the ranks at BKD LLP in 2008 as the marketing and business development executive. Bowling is responsible for office and team business development plans as well as marketing and public relations for the three southern Missouri offices in Branson, Joplin and Springfield.

Additionally, Bowling joins BKD-partner John Wanamaker in connecting managers and partners with area boards in order to invest their time into the community.

“It’s always best to seek out a good fit to pair passion with talent,” Bowling says. “People don’t live to work, so it’s nice to help people fulfill another area of their life.”

In 2011, BKD LLP’s southern Missouri offices contributed more than 3,753 community service hours, with Bowling tallying more than 600.

“Community involvement is part of BKD’s corporate culture and part of being good community citizens,” Bowling says. “The BKD Foundation was established with set criteria to provide an outlet of funds derived of partner and employee gifts to give back to area organizations in need that are championed by BKDers who are directly involved with the organization. It’s one of the things about BKD of which I am most proud.

“We give out approximately $100,000 annually from southern Missouri alone, plus support numerous other organizations through our marketing dollars.”

During the 2012 fiscal year, the BKD Foundation contributed more than $93,000 to a variety of charities, including the Ronald McDonald Tooth Truck, Big Brothers Big Sisters, the Council of Churches and the Foundation for Public Schools.

They also donated about $30,000 to organizations like Springfield Little Theatre, the Regional Arts Council and Friends of the Zoo.

Bowling is also driven personally with memberships in the Sunshine Rotary since 2004 and the Junior League of Springfield since 1999. She serves on community boards including the Springfield Little Theater Board of Directors as its development chair and the Leadership Springfield Board as its sponsorship chair. She is also a foster parent and volunteer for Home for Life Cat Sanctuary and volunteers time though events sponsored by the American Diabetes Association, the American Heart Association, the Alzheimer’s Association and other organizations.

Bowling previously worked as the development and communications director for the Developmental Center of the Ozarks from 1998 to 2008. DCO is an organization built to serve developmentally or physically disabled or delayed individuals.

In her role, Bowling managed special events, raised and managed funds and directed more than 400 volunteers.
