2012 Choice Employers, Employee of the Year: Tammy Kelley

Posted online
Tammy Kelley’s contribution to Old Missouri Bank can be attributed to her diligence, dedication to learning and willingness to take on new challenges.

Kelley, assistant vice president and internal auditor, likens her duties at Old Missouri Bank to hats, noting many different sizes and functions, but the biggest hat Kelley wears is that of auditor. Kelly is responsible for developing and managing a comprehensive internal audit program, reports audit activity to the board of directors and prepares monthly fund, management, loan and operation reports for board meetings.

Other hats Kelley wears at Old Missouri Bank include financial reporting of the bank, asset liability management preparation, budgeting, activities committee and donation committee.

Kelley employs the same level of involvement in the community she does professionally at Old Missouri Bank. Through her involvement with the Missouri Bankers Association, she was nominated by the MBA executive board to sit on the Younger Bankers Leadership Division board.

Kelley seized that opportunity to network with and influence young bankers in the Ozark region through quarterly events.

Kelley also coordinated region six Young Bankers participation in United Way’s Day of Caring for the past two years. Last year Kelley extended the Young Bankers volunteer efforts to the YMCA’s Camp Wakonda, where around 12 volunteers helped paint bunk beds.

“Not only is the feeling of giving back incredible and the attitude of giving back infections, but it’s a great opportunity for colleagues, and in this case competitors, to build camaraderie while helping the community they serve,” Kelley said.

Kelley makes an effort to influence students locally and statewide, bringing her idea for a Teach Children to Save Day regional challenge to the Young Bankers board. Teach Children to Save is a national program stressing the importance of developing life-long saving habits.

The regional challenge was intended to promote friendly competition, increase volunteers and ended up reaching more than 5,000 students.

In continuing her own education, Kelley has attended the Missouri Bankers Association School of Bank Management, where she was selected by peers to be her group’s CEO of a simulated bank model, which won  the 2011 Best Bank Award. Kelley also applied and was awarded first pick at the MBA Scholarship for Graduate School of Banking. She began study at the Madison, Wis.-based school in August.
