What do you find makes your business a desirable place to work?
“Our employees are given the opportunity to have a real impact on the company and to take ownership for their professional growth. We regularly focus on building a culture that promotes the work-life balance and job satisfaction that builds internal pride and ultimately supports our culture of developing the unparalleled customer experience."

What tools does the company use to recruit and retain staff?
“UMB uses a variety tools to recruit talent. The tools that have been the most successful include LinkedIn, social media channels, employee referrals, diversity and community partnerships, college and university postings, and traditional job boards.

“We also strive to retain those associates with various programs and practices to assist in professional development. These programs include tuition reimbursement and paid certification programs. The company also offers a comprehensive internal training and development program. UMB offers formal development programs, as well as promoting a corporate culture that encourages mentoring between associates.”

What is the average length of employment among staff, and what fosters such loyalty?
“The average length of employment for a UMB associate is approximately 10 years.  UMB is committed to creating the unparalleled customer experience, and that extends to our associates’ experiences as well. Our dynamic corporate culture, investment in associate development, comprehensive benefits package and paid volunteer time-off, help create an associate experience that is like no other. It’s not unusual for an associate to come back to UMB after leaving because of the positive associate experience they’ve had there.”

What innovative ways have you developed to reward employees?
“UMB’s corporate culture is one committed to performing at the highest level. Through our compensation programs, we continue to reward associates who consistently deliver on our brand promise: We expect more from ourselves and deliver more to our customers so that at UMB you can count on more. Our compensation options include base pay, various incentive compensation programs, a 401(k) plan with company match, as well as short-term and long-term incentive plans. Additionally, we have an internal rewards program that allows associates to reward fellow co-workers.  One of the many ways associates can do this is by submitting a ‘More Moment’ on the company’s intranet or sending an associate a ‘Wow’ card when they see someone creating the unparalleled customer experience in someone else’s life.”
