U.S. Cellular completes Springfield 4G installation

Posted online
Chicago-based U.S. Cellular Corp. (NYSE: USM) partnered with Alexandria, Va.-based King Street Wireless LP to roll out 4G long-term evolution service in Springfield and other southwest Missouri communities.

The wireless carrier’s completed expansion includes Nixa, Republic, Willard, Ozark and Marshfield. By the end of this month, the company expects to finish updating its 1,200 4G LTE sites across the country, giving 93 percent of its customers access to the speeds they claim in a news release are 10 times faster than 3G.

In addition to Missouri, U.S. Cellular’s expansion efforts cover 12 other states.

Other carriers, including AT&T Inc. (NYSE: T) and Verizon Wireless, already offer 4G LTE in the Springfield area.

U.S. Cellular, which entered the Springfield retail market in late 2012 with the opening of a brick-and-mortar store at 3825 S. Glenstone Ave., opened a second store in October at Battlefield Mall, according to Springfield Business Journal archives.

As of 9:23 a.m., USM shares were trading at $37.11, compared to a 52-week range of $31.78 to $44.86.[[In-content Ad]]
