Springfield attorney dies at 63

Posted online
Springfield attorney Carson Elliff died June 28 after suffering a heart attack. He was 63.

A partner in the firm Yates, Mauck, Bohrer, Elliff & Fels PC, Elliff’s visitation is scheduled 6-8 p.m. today at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home, 1947 E. Seminole St. His service is slated for 3 p.m. tomorrow at the same location, followed by an interment at Maple Park Cemetery, 300 W. Grand St., according to his obituary posted at GormanScharpf.com.

Yates, Mauck, Bohrer, Elliff & Fels President Carl Yates said the law office hasn’t yet made a decision on how to divide Elliff’s shares and there was no formal succession plan in place. He said the firm would not change its name.

Elliff practiced primarily in municipal finance, which the firm specializes in, Yates said.

“He was an outstanding lawyer - very knowledgeable, very professional and very friendly,” Yates said.

Prior to joining the firm - where he worked 35 years until his death - Elliff worked as an assistant Missouri attorney general and then as assistant city attorney and city prosecutor for Springfield. He graduated from Missouri State University and earned his Juris Doctor at University of Missouri-Kansas City.

The law firm changed its name from Yates, Mauck, Bohrer, Elliff & Croessmann PC in 2007 after partner David Croessmann left the firm, according to Springfield Business Journal archives.

Elliff is survived by his wife Heather, sons Brett and Matthew, and sister Sharon, all of Springfield, among others, according to his obituary.[[In-content Ad]]
