The Mentors Project: Cindy Stein

MENTEE
Angie Crews, auditor I for Greene County

OBJECTIVE
To consistently identify new objectives that she may not even realize she is capable of. Initially she had some hesitation in setting the bar higher for herself – but now she is empowered to do just that.

HOW
Promoting she take the lead on projects (including) our Great Game of Business initiative and to engage other employees in the weekly huddle.

RESULTS
Angie has been instrumental in coordinating the county’s open-book management principals, which has been a great success. Greene County was the inaugural recipient of the Gathering of the Games All-Star Pioneer award in 2015, which honors an organization that is the first in its field to implement and practice the methodology of OBM, and do so at a high level.

CHALLENGES
One of Angie’s challenges was wearing her emotions on her sleeve. That’s a temptation we all have. She has worked through that.

BREAKTHROUGHS
The light bulb really shined after Angie’s first presentation in front of 50 of her peers. Initially there was fear, as in most public speaking opportunities. She settled into her presentation, she was prepared and confident, and became comfortable with herself and her ability to contribute.

YOUR MENTOR
My mom, as a single working parent with three kids to raise. She always wanted more for her children, and as the oldest child, I was expected to excel.
