The Missouri Department of Revenue issued the city of Springfield a $3.76 million 1 percent sales tax check for October.
The latest check is down 0.5 percent from $3.78 million from the same month last year, according to a news release.
However, it beat the city’s October estimate of $3.57 million by 5.3 percent.
For the city’s fiscal year, which began July 1, the state has issued Springfield $15.4 million in tax revenue, a 5.6 percent increase compared to $14.6 million a year earlier. It also beat the city’s projections by 5.4 percent, according to the release.
Sales tax revenues are the city’s primary revenue source for vital services, including police and fire operations. Roughly 60 percent of revenue in the general fund comes from sales and use taxes.
