Project description: Scottsdale, Ariz.-based Discount Tire plans to open its first Springfield store a year after entering the Joplin market. Before breaking ground in mid-July, general contractor DeWitt & Associates demolished a former Kawasaki utility vehicle shop, which relocated to Ozark. Affiliated company Halle Properties LLC bought the land, said spokesman Greg Miller. Discount Tire is the largest independent tire and wheel retailer, with over 900 stores in 31 states and an estimated $4.2 billion in 2015 sales, according to Forbes reporting. The roughly 56-year-old company sells tires and wheels for a variety of vehicles and sponsors NASCAR and motocross events. According to DiscountTire.com, the company also operates five stores on the Missouri side of the Kansas City metropolitan area.
