Project description: City Utilities is moving its downtown bus transfer station on McDaniel Street to Main Avenue and College Street. The new station is designed to accommodate a larger fleet of buses, said Rob Rigdon, the project manager for DeWitt & Associates. He said the station’s layout steers passengers toward covered bus pickup stations and eliminates pedestrian crossings in front of drivers. The building’s interior features more room for seating, a ticketing area, offices for security and supervisors, a driver’s lounge, public restrooms and a multipurpose community room. CU spokesman Joel Alexander said 52 percent of the project is funded by the Federal Transit Administration, and CU is covering the remainder. He said CU has received seven of the remanufactured 35-foot buses at a cost of $1.7 million, with plans to buy up to nine more through fiscal 2018.
