Andrea Long is both an attorney and advocate for the health of her community. The managing attorney and founding legal champion of a partnership between CoxHealth and Legal Services of Southern Missouri Medical, the effort has served over 150 patients and their family members. Long also manages the LSSM’s Advocates for Family Health ombudsman project. For Long, community involvement isn’t simply a volunteer activity, it’s also a second job; the District 3 councilwoman for the City of Nixa currently serves as the municipality’s park and recreation and police liaison. For the past year, she’s also worked with the Springfield Homeless Court’s planning group to help Springfield’s homeless population rebuild their lives, and last year helped create the Southern Missouri Women lawyers organization.
What was your first job? Exotic Tans in Nixa, which is hilarious considering I am pale as a ghost and couldn’t stay in the bed for more than 5 minutes when I started.

What about your job would shock clients? Probably everything. If they think they are telling me something crazy, chances are I have heard something 10 times crazier.
