The saying goes “communication works for those who work at it” – just ask Alexis Brown.

As a 40 Under 40 honoree in 2001, Brown was a communications manager and later general manager for The Great Game of Business Inc.

Three years later, she left for a nearly 10-year stint at Ozarks Community Hospital. Again, Brown started as a communications manager and was promoted to the hospital’s chief operating officer before departing in 2014.

“I wanted a change of pace and to work with the clinic side of health care,” Brown says.

She’s now the executive director of clinics and patient experience for Jordan Valley Community Health Center. In the dual role, she manages seven clinics and oversees hospital interactions with patients.

Earlier in 2014, Brown also became an adjunct communications instructor at Drury University, where she earned her master’s degree in communications in August 2004.

But the responsibility closest to Brown’s heart is generating awareness and support for adults and children with developmental disabilities. Since 2008, she has served on the board of Abilities First – formerly the Greene County Board for the Developmentally Disabled – and in February 2015 was appointed to a three-year term on the Mayor’s Commission for Children.
