Zayka Indian Cuisine
Traditional Indian fare now is available downtown. Zayka Indian Cuisine opened Nov. 2 offering fast-casual dishes in the former Mille’s cafe and Coyote’s Adobe space at 309 S. Jefferson Ave. Run by Davinder and Gurpreet Gill, and her father Mohinder Singh, the trio signed a five-year lease for 3,700 square feet at $4,000 per month from David Bauer. Singh formerly operated Taste of India on West Kearney Street, where the family owns a Phillips 66 gas station and India’s Spice House. After a long search downtown for a space to cater to university students, Davinder Gill said they spent nearly $100,000 to open. With around 80 menu items, the restaurant offers a lunch buffet for $10 and dinner for $15-$18. Zayka, which translates to taste, seats 130.

Locke and Stache Media LLC
Chris Olson and Austin Elliott have been making videos since they were in high school, but it wasn’t until after they worked on a project with Josh Pfaff that they decided to turn their passion into a career. The trio opened Locke and Stache Media LLC on Aug. 1, with a studio at 211 S. Market Ave. They signed a one-year lease in the Union Biscuit building for an undisclosed amount. The multimedia agency produces videos, clips and still photography. The business partners have filmed internationally, music videos, local stunt bikers and weddings. Commercial clients include Convoy of Hope, The 1906 Gents and Brawl Soap Co. – for which Locke and Stache produced a Kickstarter video featuring Jeff Houghton of “The Mystery Hour.” Olson said the team is booked with projects through the end of the year. He said they’ve primarily marketed through word of mouth but hope to start a new marketing plan in 2017. The only staff members, Olson, Elliott and Pfaff work with an intern and about 10 subcontractors.
