Flora & Fern LLC
Deb Burgess on Sept. 3 opened a floral and home decor store, selling goods in the style she created in co-founding Aviary Cafe and Creperie LLC. Burgess, who with husband Mark last year sold Aviary Cafe, launched Flora & Fern LLC at 1717 E. Cherokee St., Ste. 105 to sell specialty houseplants, such as hanging orchids, topiaries and mounted staghorn ferns, vintage furniture, handmade jewelry and art. Items familiar to Aviary Cafe customers, such as a mounted deer head wearing a sweater, also are available. Burgess signed a three-year lease with options for the 1,500-square-foot space. She declined to disclose startup costs or lease terms with building owner J. Haik Properties LLC. The retail center, near Cherokee Street and Glenstone Avenue, also houses Early Bird Breakfast Pub and a few other retail shops.

Alzheimer’s Association Greater Missouri Chapter
The Alzheimer’s Association moved its Greater Missouri Chapter office Aug. 22 to 3643-45 South Ave. Senior Associate Director Marie Murphree said the Springfield office, previously located at 1630 W. Elfindale St., moved to better accommodate clients and staff. The 2,600-square-foot space is leased for five years from the Kickapoo Corners LLC for $2,162 per month. The international nonprofit organization educates and serves people who have been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia, and it also helps fund Alzheimer’s research. With an annual operating budget of roughly $1.2 million, the Springfield chapter helps people locally for no charge.

Hometown Sports LLC
Owners Bradley and Kristin Jackson on Sept. 1 moved Hometown Sports Screen Printing to 202 E. Brick St. in Ozark. They bought and renovated a 6,000-square-foot former church complex for nearly $600,000. The gymnasium houses the showroom and a printing house on the mezzanine level, while the sanctuary was remodeled as living space for the Jacksons. With six employees, the store sells custom sportswear to schools and teams in the area. Organizations can order between a dozen and 12,000 T-shirts, and items already in stock start at $10 for T-shirts and $20-$30 apiece for jackets and hoodies. Hometown Sports operated about 15 years in the shopping center next to Wal-Mart Supercenter and leased from Jared Enterprises Inc.
