Second PetSmart joining Party City on Tillman land

Posted online
Phoenix, Ariz.-based PetSmart Inc. is opening a second Springfield store on South Campbell Avenue land owned by developer Scott Tillman.

Todd Chambers of Chambers Real Estate Services LLC, who represented Tillman in the deal, said the 18,000-square-foot pet center should open this fall.

The 2640 S. Campbell Ave. project - where beams have been erected - is immediately adjacent to the newly relocated Party City at Tillman’s South Creek Crossing development. Chambers said the PetSmart store takes over the remaining Campbell frontage on the 8.1-acre parcel. The estimated cost of the project is $2.1 million, according to Springfield Building Development Services Director Chris Straw.

Springfield-based Williams Construction Inc. is general contractor on the project, with financing from Guaranty Bank. Carlye Wannenmacher, vice president and director of marketing for Guaranty, declined to disclose the financed amount.

PetSmart operates another Queen City store at 3500 S. Glenstone Ave. in Primrose Marketplace and over 1,400 pet stores in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico, according to its website.

Melissa Wenzel, a spokeswoman for PetSmart, confirmed the opening of the store via email and said new locations typically employ 16 to 20.
