DancoCafe LLC opened the 50th location of Jackson, Miss.-based Newk’s Express Café on April 2 at 2639 S. Glenstone Ave. Owned by Daniel Garrett, the eatery is located in a 4,800-square-foot structure built by general contractor Horizon Construction LLC. Clint McConnell, front-of-house manager, said the eatery employs about 65, led by General Manager Brant Ellis. The menu includes pizzas, salads with the company’s own dressings, and sandwiches, such as the $7.95 Newk’s  “Q,” with white barbecue sauce, grilled chicken breast, applewood-smoked bacon and Swiss cheese. Budget Blinds & Samuels
Linda Holman and Ron Hagemann opened Budget Blinds & Samuels on April 30 at 3060 S. Fremont Ave., Ste. 100, in Fremont Village. Holman is a three-year Budget Blinds franchisee, and she’s adding a gift and home décor store to the franchise, which she previously operated from a home office. Anaheim, Calif.-based Budget Blinds specializes in custom drapery, blinds and shutters, and operates a mobile model sending representatives on site for measurements and installation. The store, called Samuels after a gift shop Holman’s mother operates in Illinois, also features Budget Blinds window treatment displays, she said. Nomad World Products
Nomad World Products opened a retail store March 9 at 318 W. Walnut St. Mick Whitcomb said he and his fiancé, Paige Blotter, signed a three-year lease with Dale DeToni for $1,500 per month. The 2,000-square-foot store sells clothing, jewelry, accessories and furniture created by Whitcomb and Blotter, who started designing shirts while living in Bali, Indonesia, in 2010. The co-owners have created six private labels, including Reform School and Angel Girl, that range from casual to formal designs representing global styles, Whitcomb said. They outsource the small-quantity manufacturing through consultants in Indonesia. Whitcomb was born in Springfield and grew up on the East Coast before returning to attend Missouri State University, where he met Blotter, a Joplin native.
