Venezuela sugar crisis forces Coca-Cola shutdown

The Coca Cola Co. is halting all production in Venezuela due to a severe sugar shortage.

The sugar crisis comes as the South American nation's economy is faltering due to the collapse of global oil prices.

Empresas Polar, Venezuela's largest brewery, also had to close plants recently due to a shortage of barley.

According to Al Jazeera, the country also is facing a shortage of medicines and other food products.
