Seller: Prime Day prices misled customers

Posted online

July 11, 2017, marked Amazon’s third annual Prime Day, full of hot deals and promotions. One Amazon seller, however, says the ecommerce company deceived customers into believing they were getting a deal.

Jason Jacobs, founder of Charlotte, North Carolina-based Remodeez, said he had an agreement with Amazon since 2015 on a suggested retail price of $9.99, for his nontoxic foot deodorizer products.

Jacobs said the tech giant almost doubled the price on prime Day to make it look like people were getting a discount, when they were actually paying full price.

“They showed the product at $15.42 and then 'X'd' it out to put '$9.99 for Amazon Prime Day,'” Jacobs said.

The suggested retail price then came back down to $9.99 the next day, he added. As part of Jacob’s agreement with Amazon, the retailer does have the right to set its own pricing, he said.

“Our customers expect to come to Amazon and find the lowest prices and we work hard to meet or beat them for all customers, across our entire retail selection,” an Amazon spokesperson told Fox Business. “The world’s prices fluctuate all the time and we seek to match the lowest price.”
