NFL to return $742K taxpayers spent on patriotic tributes

Following criticism leveled last year at the National Football League by Arizona Sens. John McCain and Jeff Flake, the league will return $742,000 in taxpayer money.
 
The NFL was paid that amount by the Department of Defense over a four-year span beginning in 2012 for hosting patriotic celebrations at games.
 
A report by McCain and Flake authored last year estimated $6.8 million was spent across multiple sporting events, with the NFL receiving the most money.
