The Federal Trade Commission is examining allegations Amazon misled customers about its pricing discounts.
The investigation follows a complaint filed by advocacy group Consumer Watchdog, which claims to have found that in 61 percent of products with reference prices, Amazon's reference prices were higher than it had sold the same product in the previous 90 days.
The FTC examination comes as it scrutinizes Amazon’s proposed purchase of Whole Foods.
