Springfield to get first HomeGoods store

Posted online
Signage went up late last week along South Glenstone Avenue foretelling of Springfield’s first HomeGoods store.

HomeGoods officials commissioned Springfield Sign & Graphics Inc. to install the “coming soon” sign fronting Glenstone Avenue for the planned $10 million, 100,000-square-foot Glenstone Marketplace development, said Dave Schridde, sales and project manager for the sign company.

Schridde was unaware of HomeGoods officials’ timeline for opening, but estimates it could be around the same time Lucky’s Market comes to the development. Officials with the health food grocery chain are targeting the third or fourth quarter.

“It really depends on the building,” Schridde said. “The building’s been sitting kind of stagnant for months.”

Neither Glenstone Marketplace developer Brad Thessing nor HomeGoods officials could be reached for comment by deadline. The 8-acre Glenstone Marketplace currently has steel framing up for a portion of the retail center. The Fresh Market recently backed out of Glenstone Marketplace, the site of a former Howard Johnson hotel that was demolished in August 2015. The development has been slow to sign tenants.

HomeGoods is owned by Framingham, Massachusetts-based The TJX Cos. Inc. (NYSE: TJX), which also operates T.J. Maxx and Marshalls. The TJX Cos. operates 568 HomeGoods stores, according to its website. Four are in Missouri: one in Lake Ozark and three in the St. Louis metro area.

HomeGoods sells furniture and a variety of home decor items, including rugs, lighting and dining sets, according to its website.
