Puerto Rico today faces owes a crucial debt payment of $355 million.
If it fails to pay, the default could trigger lawsuits, spook investors and undermine the island's efforts to climb out of $72 billion in debt, according to Reuters.
The payment is owed to the U.S. commonwealth's financing arm, the Government Development Bank.
