Monsanto shelves plans for new GMO cotton seeds in India

Monsanto Co. announced today it withdrew an application to sell a new variety of genetically modified cotton seed in India.

The move is a protest against the country's attempts to restrict the biotechnology business by forcing the company to share its technology with local seed companies and limit how much it can charge for genetically modified cotton seeds.

The South Asian nation is one of the world’s biggest producers of GMO cotton, thanks largely to Monsanto’s biotechnology.
