Lionsgate and Starz in advanced merger talks, sources say

Santa Monica, Calif., movie studio Lionsgate, which cemented its status in Hollywood with "The Hunger Games," is reportedly in advanced talks to merge with movie channel Starz, according to four people with knowledge of the matter.

The Los Angeles Times reports the move would create a major media company in an industry that's seeing a lot of consolidation.

Company officials reportedly have been in talks for several months.
