Justice Department sues Ferguson

Posted online
The U.S. Department of Justice yesterday filed a federal lawsuit against the city of Ferguson.

In the suit, the feds claim leaders in the North County municipality attempted to modify a tentative consent agreement with the government concerning its police and court practices.

The federal government alleges the city's law enforcement uses its authority to generate revenue rather than for legitimate purposes.

It also includes racial bias and civil rights abuse claims.

The suit asks the court system to make Ferguson adopt policies to correct and prevent unlawful conduct.
